Bringing a folding walker or cane? Include it in the ride plan
Explain the mobility aid, storage needs, pickup path, and assistance expectations before a prebooked passenger ride.

A passenger may walk independently for short distances but rely on a cane, folding walker, or rollator for stability. That equipment should be part of the transportation plan, not a surprise at the curb. A few practical details help the passenger keep control of the aid, avoid leaving it behind, and understand what assistance the transportation provider has agreed to provide.
Describe the mobility aid accurately
Tell the booking office whether the passenger uses a cane, standard folding walker, rollator with a seat, or another device. Explain whether it folds, its approximate size when folded, and whether a basket, bag, or other attachment travels with it.
If the device recently changed, update the reservation. A new rollator may take more cargo space than the cane or compact walker listed on an earlier trip.
Plan the path to the vehicle
Confirm the exact meeting point and review steps, steep curbs, heavy doors, wet surfaces, and long hallways between the passenger and vehicle. The passenger should not be asked to wait in a traffic lane or leave the mobility aid unattended.
Allow enough readiness time for the passenger to move at a comfortable pace. The scheduled pickup time should not be the moment someone begins looking for the walker or helping the passenger leave the apartment.
Agree on assistance and storage
Ask the provider what assistance is included and who will fold, lift, and store the device. Do not assume the driver can provide hands-on mobility support that was not discussed during booking.
Remove only items the passenger has approved for removal. Keep identification, medication, and valuables with the passenger or responsible companion rather than in an exterior walker pouch.
- Mobility-aid type and folded size.
- Pickup path and building access.
- Agreed assistance level.
- Return-trip storage plan.
Check the device at both ends
Before the vehicle departs, confirm that the cane or walker is aboard and that any removable bag or attachment is accounted for. At the destination, the passenger should have the device available before moving away from the vehicle.
Repeat the same check for the return. If the passenger's mobility needs change during the appointment, contact the transportation office before pickup so it can determine whether the existing ride plan remains appropriate. Cathay Express Transportation can review mobility-aid details while a non-emergency ride is being arranged.
